Health Care Services Not Provided by SF PATH

SF PATH is a limited federally-funded health access program for certain San Francisco residents. SF PATH is not health insurance and does not provide everything that insurance does.

Where you can go for medical services, what services are included in the program, how much the enrollee fees and medical services cost, and even who can participate in the program may change based on federal guidelines.

For these, and many other reasons, if you can get health insurance, you should do so. SF PATH is a program of last resort for San Francisco residents who cannot get health insurance.

There are certain services that are not included in SF PATH. Below is a partial list of services that are not included:

  • Acupuncture
  • Allergy testing and injections
  • Chiropractic
  • Cosmetic Services
  • Dental Services*
  • Gastric bypass surgery and services
  • Genetic testing and counseling
  • Infertility
  • Long-term care
  • Organ transplants
  • Sexual reassignment surgery
  • Travel immunizations
  • Vision Services*

*Remember, SF PATH is not insurance. If you have insurance, do not drop it to join SF PATH. Insurance is always the better choice.

SF PATH does not include dental or vision services. There are dental and vision resources located throughout the Bay Area that provide free or reduced-cost dental and vision services. Range of services and cost vary depending on the individual's income and assets and the clinic's own policies.
